3 Things to Pray Over Your Kid This School Year

As another school year begins, I simply want to encourage us to slow down through this season, realizing the one who holds it all together. Amid a parent’s worry, a student’s anxiety, and a family’s busy schedule, God knows everything we are about to walk through. There are many ways to pray for our families, and below are three ways we can pray for our children this school year. I would love to hear how you are praying for your children this school year. Feel free to drop ways you are praying in the comments.

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁. Our biggest desire and prayer for our children should be for them to have a personal relationship with Jesus. In Colossians 2:6-7, Paul reminds us, that once we have received Christ, we are rooted in Him. Living in the world is difficult, and we can easily slip into the crowd, following the patterns our culture sets. If our children don’t know Jesus, may we pray fervently that they would put their faith in the saving work of Christ. If they do know Jesus, may we pray they are firm in their faith, and would look more like Jesus every day.

“So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.” Colossians 2:6-7 (CSB)

Scripture to pray over our children…

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀. Children making amazing friends is a hope and prayer of every parent. Let’s pray our children meet other believers who will encourage them, pray for them, and sharpen them. This may be another student. This may be one of their teachers. I remember the excitement I had as a kid when I came across someone else who loved Jesus. They went to a different church, and were a part of different denominations, but we had all things in common because we had Jesus in common. May our kids connect with others who love Jesus outside of our church walls, and know they are not alone as believers.

Scripture to pray over our children…

“Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀. Whether they are playing in the playground at Chick-fil-A, hanging out in the band hall, or sitting in math class, God has them in a unique mission field. Our kids are in relationships that we will never have, and therefore, have opportunities to share the gospel in ways we will never get to share. Jesus has sent us out to make disciples. May we model this well for our children, and encourage them to love others to Jesus as well.

Scripture to pray over our children..,

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16

𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻…𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗱, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀.
